IKEM is a Nigerian Orthopaedic Surgeon with 20 years national and international experience, also during the same period has been in the academia as a University teacher. He holds a medical degree of the University of Jos, Jos, a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, a Fellowship (Board Certification) of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (Orthopaedics) and West African College of Surgeons (Board Certification). At various times, he has served as a practicing physician, and researcher, trainer. He has been involved in the pre-service training of undergraduate and graduate students for upwards of 20 years in the university system.
IKEM is widely travelled and published with 60 citations in both national and international peer reviewed journals, focusing on Skeletal long bone stabilization, Bone infections, Diabetic foot and arthroplasty. He has a very good knowledge of interlocking nail fracture stabilisation technique. He has popularised this method of fracture stabilisation in Nigeria. He played a pivotal role in the introduction of Interlocking nail system of fracture care in Nigeria. He taught its usage to colleagues at various levels. Also, he has organised elaborate hands-on-workshops using saw dust bones and live surgeries demonstrations in many university teaching hospitals in Nigeria.
IKEM has served the University in various administrative roles till date.Our contribution to knowledge in management of long bone fractures is now widely cited in literature. We are also cited in world acclaimed text books, Orthopaedic Rockwood & Green’s Fractures in Adults: 6th Edition page 398 and Skeletal Trauma: Basic Science, Management, and Reconstruction, Volume 1, reference 223, page 2440 by Bruce D. Browner, Peter G. Trafto.
