- Dr. S. Ravikumar, born on August 10, 1967, at Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram District, is presently the Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Biological Sciences, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, Sivagangai District Tamil Nadu, India.
- He is also the Member of the Senate nominated by the Pro-Chancellor and Internal Quality Assessment Committee nominated by Vice-Chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India.
- Before the present position, he has worked as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer in Marine Biotechnology from 1999-2006 at Centre for Marine Science and Technology, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India.
- He has held the additional charge as a Co-ordinator (2008-2012) in Alagappa University Evening College, Thondi, and Principal i/c at Alagappa University Arts and Science College, Paramakudi (2012-2014). And also he is holding the position of Research Advisory Governance- RAG Member in the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust (GOMBRT), Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, India nominated by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Chennai.
- Dr. S. Ravikumar was a member of the Planning Board of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli nominated by His Excellency Governor of Tamil Nadu for three years. He is a scientist in the area of Marine Bioprospecting.
- Dr. S. Ravikumar received his Ph. D in Marine Biology in 1995 from CAS in Marine Biology, Annamalai University, Portonovo. His current research area interest includes Biomedical Sciences, Marine pharmacology, Marine Microbial Technology Bio-ethanol production, and Bio-fertilizers from marine bio-wastes.
- Dr. S. Ravikumar has authored 6 books and has written 19 chapters in books. He has published 262 papers in the referred International and national journals. He has presented 73 papers at International and National Conferences. He has organized 7 seminars/symposiums/conferences/workshops.
- He has made a significant contribution in the field of marine sciences which includes, bacterial and seagrass vermicompost biofertilizers for growth and yield of coastal crop plants and mangroves and also developed technology for the exploration of marine drugs from marine resources against different human diseases such as Malaria, Cancer and some Bacterial diseases and veterinary, fish, poultry diseases. And he has filed 3 patents in the category of Antimicrobial, Antidiabetic, and Biofiltration efficacy of doctor face masks.
- He has investigated six research projects funded by DST, DST-NRDMS, ICMR, UGC, GOMBRT, Moen&F, DST-SERB, New Delhi, and UN-ECOSOC-USA to the tune of 504,000 USD. He is currently the Deputy Coordinator of the UGC SAP-DRS-I program raising funds to the tune of 102.499USD. He has guided 33 Ph.D. scholars and 4 more are working with him for their Ph.D. and mentor for 3 PDFs sanctioned by UGC and DST.
- He has worked in the Department of Biochemistry, Government Arts College, Paramakudi between 1995-1997 further in the PG Department of Microbiology, Thiagarajar Arts College, Madurai between 1997-1999. He has visited Germany, Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxumburg, Malaysia, Thailand, Mauritious, Dubai, and China. He is a life member of INSA and a Fellow of the Society of Applied Sciences.
- Dr. S. Ravikumar has been an active constituent of various academic and research activities that have taken place at Algappa University in recent years.
- He has served as Chairman, the Board Of Studies in various Universities and has been involved in framing the PG Syllabus. AS a teacher he has designed the curriculum for M.Sc. Marine Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Marine Biology, Oceanography, Microbiology, Biochemistry offered by several universities/institutions.
- Dr. S. Ravikumar has been awarded Inwent fellowship for six months by the German Ministry of Economics and Co-operation Development and Indo-Mauritious Post Doctoral fellowship by UGC-TEC. He is a recipient of Shri P.K. Dass Memorial Best Faculty Award in Marine Sciences from Nehru Group of Institutions2007 and Life Time Achievement Award -2019, EPS Young Innovator Award by EPS Global Medical Development Inc, Montreal, Canada, Best Oral Presentation Award by Association of Microbiologists of India.
- He has also been the reviewer for 81 articles for 50 internationally reputed journals published by leading publishers.
- Dr. S. Ravikumar has conducted the 3 International/6 National conferences on Marine and allied sciences. In recognition of the outstanding research work done by Dr. S. Ravikumar in the field of Marine Sciences, Alagappa University is privileged to confer him, the Alagappa Research Award for Excellence Award in the field of marine sciences.
