- After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Botany and Zoology from the St. Theresa’s College in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Parvataneni pursued her Master of Science cum Ph.D. in Bio-organic Chemistry from the Andhra University in Visakhapatnam. Diving deep into the isolation, purification, characterization and synthesis of marine natural products, she compiled a robust thesis and received her doctoral degree in 1997. She was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship by the national Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) to explore new bioactive compounds from marine invertebrates and their biological activities as a senior research associate for 8 years.
- In 2006, Dr. Parvataneni joined the full-time faculty of Andhra University as an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry. To investigate novel compounds from terrestrial medical plants, she simultaneously undertook the role of a principal investigator as anointed by the central government’s Department of Science & Technology (DST) and continued her research in that area until 2009. In 2013, she was successfully granted a major research project to synthesize gold and silver nanoparticles from aqueous extracts of medicinal plants, as funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) headquartered in New Delhi, India. While she was investigating relevant properties from Scoparia dulcis (L.) extracts in her lab, she moved up to an associate professor role in 2015.
- After serving as the head of department for three years, Dr. Parvataneni was instated as a professor at the university in 2018 and has carried out her teaching and research responsibilities accordingly. Thus far, she has over 15 years of teaching experience and 25 years of research experience in the domains of organic chemistry, biochemistry and natural products. She has 40+ publications across a myriad of esteemed national and international journals, and continues her nanoparticle research. Dr. Parvataneni is currently also serving a 3-year term as the chairperson for the department’s Board of Studies.
